On Gay Time

The first film I produced at The New School was for Aesthetics of Directing, and it was required for the film to be silent. On Gay Time is a callback to the classic Modern Times starring film legend Charlie Chaplin. The film was shot on an iPhone X and edited in iMovie.

Portrait of Adam

Portrait of Adam is a short documentary film I produced at The New School for Film 1. It was shot on T1200 film using a 16mm Bolex camera, and edited in Adobe Premiere.

The Pact

The Pact is a dark comedy about two depressed friends who form a suicide pact, but they can't decide how to carry it out. They struggle through daily life activities. The sound design conveys both the elasticity of time during the pandemic's self-isolation and the functioning levels of the characters, one with high functioning depression and the other low.

This is my final student film from The New School. Due to the pandemic, I worked under several restrictions: no crew, very little equipment, and no one allowed in my apartment to film. I had only myself and a close friend as actors. Most of the lighting is natural sunlight coming through the windows. Knowing I would be both subject/camera person, and that all of the indoor shots would be static, I chose a theme that lends itself to stagnancy and speaks to the global mentality during the pandemic— anxiety and depression.

The film was made using an iPhone 11 Pro, a tripod, minimal use of a Zhiyun gimbal, and two lavalier mics plugged directly into the phone for outdoor dialogue. Despite the technical difficulties I encountered throughout the process— grainy footage due to low lighting and some sound clipping on the dialogue— I muscled through my own depression, focused on the story, and produced a film with an important message worth presenting to an audience.
